Your Hosts – Rob & Lou
As a couple we have been running Base Surf Lodge for over eight years. In this time we have worked hard to build it into the popular independent business that it is today. As well as our place of work Base Surf Lodge is also our home. Our personal values reflect our goals for the business, in the sense of being environmentally conscious and enjoying the simple things in life.
About us…
As surfers and skiers we love the outdoors to say the least. We have made a home for ourselves here in Newquay where we are in the ocean surfing, cliff jumping, kayaking, snorkelling or fishing everyday. In the quieter winter months we head to France where we ski and run a chalet in the mountains. We live by the seasons chasing snow and waves, but also love to relax, eat healthily and enjoy good company. We are passionate about sharing our lifestyle and local knowledge with guests of the lodge to make sure everyone can make the most of what Newquay and Cornwall have to offer.
The New Addition…
Having both grown up with dogs, we always dreamt of getting our own. After many months of deliberating over the positives and negatives, we decided the pros absolutely out way the cons. We then had to decide on a breed. Although a big cuddly Labrador would have been our preference if we had a huge house with a big garden, we chose to get a small, non-moulting cockapoo instead. Cockapoos have the advantage of looking like a little teddy bear, whilst having the energy of a Duracell bunny; making the perfect surf/ski companion. Also as their fur doesn’t drop out they are hypo-allergenic, perfect for lodge life.
After choosing to get a boy, we named him Tipsy as we saved our tips from France to buy him. Tipsy is a bundle of joy and absolutely loves meeting new people. He adores the water and you’ll often find him stand-up paddleboarding down in the Gannel estuary or surfing at Fistral beach.
